Kashan rugs are hand knotted in the ancient city of Kashan in central Iran. For centuries, Kashan rugs have been recognised as one of the benchmark weaves in Persian rug production. Well known for their excellent construction, Kashan rugs are woven to last and designed to be used.
Kashan rugs feature varied patterns of medallions, flowing vines and the prevalent Shah Abbas palmette.
Various qualities of Kashan Persian rugs are still being produced. These grades are distinguishable by the quality of wool that is used in their construction. Most Kashan rugs are produced using a durable local wool, however the best pieces are produced using either fine kork Marino wool or in pure silk.
