Mashad
Rug production began in Mashhad, a city in northeastern Iran, in the late nineteenth century. Mashhad is a source of beautiful rug weaving as well as a marketplace for trading rugs of surrounding villages.
Deep crimson red is specific to Mashad Persian rugs and is balanced by tones of sky and navy blue. Mashad rugs are typically woven in large standard sizes, and the flowing designs resemble those of Kerman and Kashan.
